Trip Overview

Two distinct desert ecosystems, the Mojave and the Colorado, come together in Joshua Tree National Park. A fascinating variety of plants and animals make their homes in a land sculpted by strong winds and occasional torrents of rain. Dark night skies, a rich cultural history, and surreal geologic features add to the wonder of this vast wilderness in Southern California. Join MSA's Founder and Chief Adventure Officer, Michael Bennett, Ed.D., in this majestic destination as we immerse ourselves in 4 days and 3 nights of yoga, hiking, rock-climbing, and personal exploration. On this program, you will enjoy:

If you don’t die of thirst, there are blessings in the desert. You can be pulled into limitlessness, which we all yearn for, or you can do the beauty of minutiae, the scrimshaw of tiny and precise. The sky is your ocean, and the crystal silence will uplift you like great gospel music.

MICHAEL BENNETT, ED.D. | Founder & Chief Adventure Officer

Michael is a seasoned traveler, organizational consultant, accidental entrepreneur, and life/career coach who has dedicated his life to helping others change their lives through his coaching and travel programs. Inspired by his own transformational travel experiences and a personal struggle to find meaningful work, Michael launched MSA in 2011 as way to support others in bringing more passion, purpose, and meaning to their lives. He earned his Bachelors Degree from the University of Delaware and both his Global MBA and his Ed.D. in Organizational Leadership from Pepperdine University.

MARY WIGGINS | Registered Yoga Teacher & Licensed Masseuse

Mary has been teaching yoga (and loving it!) since April of 2012. Although her lust for “Madonna arms” is what initially drew her to yoga, the mind/body connection is what has made her a lifelong fan. In addition to her yoga teaching, Mary is also a licensed massage therapist. Originally hailing from the coast of Charleston, SC, Mary now calls SoCal "home" and is loving every moment of it. With its spectacular panoramic views, The Desert Lily is a peaceful and delight-filled place to experience all that the high desert has to offer. Surrounded by desert foliage and creatures of all kinds, be sure to listen for the music of coyotes and to observe the quail families, lizards, jackrabbits, tortoises, and other creatures that call this desert home.

In the stillness of dawn, greet the day by watching the rising sun softly color everything, from mountain to sky, in a pink and orange glowing light. Invisibly, the desert wind picks up. It interacts and magically brings the sculpture garden to life ... each sculpture's distinctive movement mirrors the shifting nature of the wind and environment. Admire hummingbirds flitting and swooping about in their desert garden that is surprisingly lush and fragrant when full of springtime blossoms. Spend your evening gazing at the brilliant starry sky or bathe in the intense desert moonlight that turns night to day. A beautiful wall of adobe and bottles surround a cozy fire-pit where you can snuggle up around a fire on cool evenings. You may want to curl up in the hammock and dream of other worlds, or sip a glass of win beside a fire in the great room. The spring season is glorious with the desert abloom. And the sun is almost always shining.

Is this program for me?

This program is for you if you ...

  1. Love traveling, exploring new places, making new friends, and trying new things like sound baths and rock-climbing
  2. Are ready to create something new in your life—a job/career, or relationship, or even a new way of looking at things

Do I need to be a yogi and/or in greta shape to participate?

NO! You do not need to be a world-class athlete to participate in this program. You should, however, be fit enough to participate in activities like yoga and light hiking. If you have questions or concerns about your ability to complete this program, please contact MSA at (424) 216—8339.

How does the Your Hero's Journey process work?

All of our Adventures follow a three-part process of exploration, discovery, and transformation that we call Your Hero's Journey. Like the Hero's Journey itself, YHJ consists of 3 stages:

  1. The Call to Adventure — A series of pre-departure calls help us get to know each other and prepare for our Journey
  2. The Adventure — We explore the world, have fun, engage in meaningful discussions, and learn from our experiences
  3. The Return of the Hero — A series of post-trip calls that help us keep each other accountable for the actions we commit to

The goal? To create an exciting, powerful, and life-changing experience for you and your fellow travelers!

What does a typical day on this Adventure look like?

The days will be exhilarating and in some cases physically challenging as we explore Joshua Tree National Park. In the evenings, over a delicious meal and a beer or a glass of wine, we'll dive into casual yet inspirational conversations about what you are learning from your experiences (and one another) and how you can apply those lessons to transform your life.

How many people will be going with me on this Adventure?

We limit the group size for all of our Adventures to a max of 8 participants. (We also require a minimum of 4 people for this trip.) Most participants for this program are between the ages of 25—45, but we've had adventurers as young as 65 on our programs. Generally speaking, we see a few more women than men on our programs.
