Below you will find our Terms & Conditions. All Muddy Shoe Adventurers are required to review our Terms and complete the form below agreeing to and acknowledging these Terms at the bottom of this page. (You can also download a copy of our Terms & Conditions at the bottom of this page.)


The Terms & Conditions set forth in this agreement constitute the entire understanding and agreement between you, the program “Participant,” and Muddy Shoe Adventures LLC (“Muddy Shoe Adventures,” “MSA”) with respect to any and all bookings, programs, or transactions made with Muddy Shoe Adventures. By purchasing a program from Muddy Shoe Adventures, you accept all of the terms in this agreement and direct us to perform services on your behalf. All persons named in this booking (“Participants”) are subject to this agreement. By accepting the terms of this agreement, you affirm that you have made all other Participants listed in the booking aware of these terms—regardless of how final payment is made—and that all Participants accept these terms.



Every Muddy Shoe Adventure is designed to be a transformational experience for each participant on the program. As such, program participants have the responsibility to select a program appropriate to both their physical abilities and interests. To assist in doing so, Muddy Shoe Adventures rates each program with an Activity Level and provides a thorough description of each program an its itinerary. If you have questions regarding a program’s itinerary or activity level, we encourage you to call us before booking to ensure that you pick a program that is right for you. In addition to the physical requirements of the program, participants are expected to adequately prepare for the program by reviewing the itinerary and pre-departure information packets sent by Muddy Shoe Adventures and completing any pre-program reading, personal reflection, and other activities. It is important that you carefully read all program-related documents as soon as you receive them. It is your responsibility to contact us if any information is incorrect. We cannot accept any liability if you do not notify us of any inaccuracies within 30 days of your receipt of those documents. Participants are expected to act in accordance with local customs, cultures, and laws of places visited.



Muddy Shoe Adventures can be physically, mentally, and emotionally demanding. It is vital that any persons with medical problems make them known to MSA well before program departure. If you have a physical condition, dietary restrictions, or other conditions that will require special attention during the program, you must inform us in writing when the booking is made. If you have a pre-existing medical condition, you must complete our medical statement. If you do not return the completed statement to us by the specified deadline, we reserve the right to prohibit you from departing on the program. Although unlikely, Muddy Shoe Adventures does have the right to disqualify a participant at any time before or during a program if we feel that the participant is mentally or physically incapable of continuing the program, and/or if a participant’s continued participation jeopardizes the groups and/or his/her own safety. Muddy Shoe Adventures is not a medical facility and therefore has no responsibility regarding medical advice, medications, or inoculations that you or your doctor deem necessary for your safe participation. For some programs, hospital facilities for serious problems may not be readily available, and evacuation can be prolonged, difficult, and expensive. Muddy Shoe Adventures assumes no liability regarding provision of medical care. By registering for your program and accepting these Terms & Conditions, you agree to pay for emergency evacuation and emergency medical care.



Many MSA participants elect to purchase comprehensive travel insurance prior to program departure to guard against unforeseen personal or world events that may force them to cancel or postpone their adventure. For United States and Canadian residents, we suggest you compare Travel Guard plans and choose among Basic, Silver, Gold or Platinum coverage or talk to your preferred insurance provider for more information. Some travel insurance providers offer adventure-specific travel insurance policies. Our experience is that it is best to buy travel insurance within 15 days of your initial deposit, which gives you more comprehensive coverage as well as the option to purchase ‘cancel for any reason’ coverage. Every year we have clients who regret that they didn’t get insurance, while nobody ever regrets that they did. Please contact us for more information regarding travel insurance.



Some Muddy Shoe Adventures require participants to submit a program application. A link to the program application can be found on each Adventure’s web page, or by visiting www.MuddyShoeAdventures.com/apply. You can find all relevant information about the MSA Application process on our website. Submitting an application does not guarantee admission to any program. MSA reserves the right to deny participation to anyone whom it deems unsuitable for a trip.



Early reservations are encouraged to confirm your space. All Adventures require an initial deposit (variable depending on total price of the Adventure) or payment in full at the time of booking to reserve your space on the program. Reservations are considered ‘accepted’ once we have received your initial deposit and have sent you a confirmation email. Deposit requirements and payment schedules are as follows:

  • Programs under $1000: Full payment due at time of booking.
  • Programs over $1000: $500 deposit due at booking; Balance due 90 days before program start date.

In some cases, once a deposit is received it will be forwarded to service providers in-country. Additional deposits may be required for some trips, especially in peak seasons, when yachts have been chartered, or if permits to visit archaeological or wildlife sites have been purchased in advance. It may be necessary to adjust prices up or down 30 days before departure to allow for changes in group size, rooming status, or currency fluctuations. The principle trip balance is due 90 days prior to departure. Failure to deliver complete payment 30 days prior to departure will be considered notification of cancellation by default and is subject to cancellation charges as stated below. Payments must be in US dollars and can be made by check or credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express). If you pay via check, we cannot confirm your reservation until your payment has cleared the bank. Bounced checks returned will incur a $50 fee. 



MSA aims to be as flexible as possible when it comes to transfers, cancellations, and refunds. Unpredictable events may cause you to postpone, transfer, or even cancel your adventure with us. To protect yourself in the event that you have to cancel, trip cancellation and travel insurance is highly recommended. While we always try to be fair to our clients who can’t come, we make substantial commitments (ex: to hotels and guides, and by turning people away from sold-out tours) that can’t always be reversed at the last minute. (See the Travel Insurance section for more info.) In the event that you do need to cancel your adventure, you must submit your request to us via email. Once we have received your request, we’ll do our best to work with you to find an equitable solution for you and MSA. In some cases, penalties and fees may be applied per person according to the following schedules: 

Days prior to program start: Cancellation fee per person

  • 91 or more days: Initial deposit
  • 31—90 days: 50% of program cost
  • 30 or fewer days: 100% of program cost

No partial refunds are possible for any unused portion of your trip. Any participant who is removed from a program by MSA will not receive a refund. Transfers are handled on a case-by-case basis. 



Although unlikely, Muddy Shoe Adventures does reserve the right to cancel or alter any program prior to departure for any reason, which may include insufficient program participation, problems with suppliers or partner operators, or a host of other reasons. The refund of all program payments received by us shall release Muddy Shoe Adventures from any further liability. However, in a gesture of good faith, all participants whose program is cancelled by Muddy Shoe Adventures are entitled to a 10% discount off of any future Muddy Shoe Adventure. If a program is cancelled due to “Force Majeure” (i.e., circumstances beyond the reasonable control of Muddy Shoe Adventures, including: Acts of God, terrorist activities, insurrection, explosions, flood, tempest, forceful wind, fire or accident, war or threat of war declared or undeclared, sabotage, civil disturbance, labor strikes, requisition, sickness, quarantine, government intervention, weather conditions, and any other unforeseen circumstances), Muddy Shoe Adventures will promptly refund the portion of the program cost not already advanced to suppliers. We will also use our best efforts to recover and refund the balance of your monies as promptly as possible. However, Muddy Shoe Adventures cannot guarantee recovery of any or all of the advance payments made, and the use of best efforts to recover these payments will not include the institution of legal proceedings in foreign jurisdictions. Unfortunately, in either of the above scenarios, Muddy Shoe Adventures cannot be responsible for expenses incurred by program participants in preparing for a cancelled program (e.g., nonrefundable air tickets, hotels, visa fees, inoculations, equipment, etc.) or for any additional arrangements should the program participant have embarked prior to the scheduled group departure date.



While we do our best to avoid doing so, due to factors beyond our control, MSA reserves the right to change our prices without prior notice and at any time. Quoted costs represent a complete package price; itemized individual costs are not available. Unless otherwise noted, prices quoted for most programs include:

  • All accommodations as listed (based on double occupancy) + hotel taxes and service charges
  • Meals as indicated; alcohol is not included in program pricing
  • Transfers to/from the airport to the program location
  • Transportation during the program (ex: trains, buses, trams, funiculars, ferries, etc.)
  • Admissions fees to itinerary sites and museums
  • Services of all program guides throughout the program
  • Gratuities for 3rd party service providers

Participants may request single accommodations, subject to availability, and will pay a single supplement. If you are traveling alone and wish to share accommodations, we will do our best to match you with a roommate. If a roommate is not available, a single supplement charge may be added.

Unless otherwise noted, the following items are not included in quoted program price are:

  • Air or train fares (unless part of the program itinerary)
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Travel insurance
  • Gratuities to MSA program leaders
  • Cost of obtaining passports, visas (unless listed as included), and/or immunizations
  • Arrival/departure airport or country taxes
  • Items of a personal nature
  • Emergency evacuation

While unlikely, prices are subject to change as program prices are often published up to a year in advance.



Unless a specific accommodation is requested, we reserve or recommend the best available, reasonably priced, charming hotels/lodges with private bath, hot water, good service, value, and sustainable management practices. Prices are based on two persons sharing a twin-bedded room. Established camping safaris feature full size walk-in tents for two persons with cot-style bedding or sleeping pads. On trekking and camping trips tents, sleeping pads or mattresses, washbasins, toilet facilities, cooking equipment, lanterns, pack animals, and portering gear are provided. Participants must furnish their own clothing, soft-luggage, and daypack. Sleeping bags are necessary for some trips, but are usually available for rent. MSA reserves the right to substitute equivalent or superior hotels.



Single supplement is the additional cost of a single traveler not sharing a room in double occupancy. If you request single accommodations, you will be charged the single supplement. If you are willing to share a room we will attempt to match you with another traveler of the same gender, in which case the single supplement will be waived. However, if we are unable to find another traveler with whom you can share a room in most cases you will be charged a single supplement. 



You are responsible for ensuring that all necessary travel documents are valid, effective, and in your possession for the entire program. Passports are required for all U.S. citizens traveling abroad and should be valid for at least 6 months after your date of return. We suggest you apply for or renew a passport early. Other required documents may include visas, permits, and vaccination certificates. You assume full responsibility for checking and verifying any and all passport, visa, vaccination, or other entry requirements. You are also solely responsible for any adverse consequences resulting from incomplete or defective documentation. While we may provide information on matters such as visas, vaccinations, climate, clothing, baggage, and special equipment in good faith as a courtesy to you, we are not responsible for any errors or omissions in the information provided. 



Muddy Shoe Adventures respects and values your privacy. We will never sell your address or private information. Muddy Shoe Adventures reserves the right to take photographic or film records of any of its programs. Program participants should be aware that Muddy Shoe Adventures may use any such photographic or film records for promotional and/or commercial purposes, or joint marketing efforts with third parties, without remuneration to the program participant.



Muddy Shoe Adventures is a registered Seller of Travel with the State of California Seller of Travel Program through the Office of the Attorney General. Our SOT Registration Number is: 2116235-40.

MSA is registered with the Travel Consumer Restitution Corporation Fund. Our TCRC number is: 601703.
