Frequently Asked Questions
Below you will find answers to come of the more frequently asked questions about this Finding Balance in Life Adventure. If you have questions that are not answered here, please contact us!
WHERE & WHEN ARE WE GOING TO MEET?
For those taking the optional yoga class, we'll rendezvous near the Venice Pier by 7:30AM. The exact location will depend on surf conditions and weather. We'll send out specific directions the week before the program. If you are not participating in the yoga class, meet the yogis there no later than 8:30AM for some breakfast and the start of our program!
HOW LONG IS THIS ADVENTURE?
The program officially begins at 8:30AM and should end sometime around 1:00PM ... So 4.5 hours.
IS THIS ADVENTURE DANGEROUS?
No! You are in great hands with Mary Wiggins of Yoga with Mary and Peter from Go Surf LA. This yoga class will be a relaxing and meditative experience, and so while you will get in a good workout, there is little to no danger involved.
Surfing can be physically demanding, and there have been shark sightings off the CA coast in recent years, so be alert and aware of your surroundings at all times. With that said, we will be in shallow waters, so it is extremely unlikely that we will encounter any sort of problem. Nevertheless, our surf instructors are trained in CPR and First Aid, and MSA Team Members in attendance have Wilderness First Aid and Wilderness First Responder Training in the unlikely event of a serious injury.
DO I NEED TO BE IN AMAZING SHAPE TO PARTICIPATE?
No! You should be in good enough shape to be able to participate in an hour-long yoga class, you will need to carry a surfboard and paddle into the waves (which can be surprisingly tiring!), and clearly you need to be able to swim, but other than that, we have had people with varying degrees of fitness attend our adventures with great success!
WHO ELSE IS GOING WITH ME ON THIS ADVENTURE?
Muddy Shoe Adventures' clients tend to be younger, usually in the 25—45 year old range, although we have had participants who have been in their 70s attend our surfing program! The group is usually a 50/50 mix of males and females, and group sizes tend to be in the 6—8 person range. In addition to your fellow surfers, 3—4 MSA Team Members will accompany you on this program.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
We'll send out a packing list in the week leading up to the adventure, but some of the most basic items you would want to bring include: Comfortable clothes for yoga, a swimsuit, towels, beach blanket, sunscreen, and a change of clothes.
WHAT KIND OF PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES ARE WE GOING TO DO?
Like most Muddy Shoe Adventures, this Adventure consists of a mix of facilitated group conversations and personal reflection activities. On ALL of our programs, we do our best to create a safe and supportive environment for you to really dive into your work and your process of self-exploration and self-discovery.
WHO IS LEADING THIS PROGRAM?
MSA Founder Michael Bennett will be leading your Surf & Yoga Adventure Adventure. Michael has been coaching clients for over 10 years, and his playful and interactive coaching and facilitation style fits this program perfectly!
